Frequently asked questions
What people ask us before hiking. If it is not here, type it below and we answer on WhatsApp.
Booking
How do I book?
Choose the trek and date on the site and pay in dollars through WeTravel or in pesos by bank transfer. Multi-day crossings are requested with the form and we confirm availability and price before charging. Your place is confirmed once we receive payment and send written confirmation.
How far ahead should I book?
As early as you can, especially from December to March, when guides and services in town are in high demand. Last-minute requests are welcome: we confirm if there is room.
Do you run private trips?
Yes, for individuals, couples, families and small groups. With a private guide you choose the pace, the timing and the route. The price depends on the trek, the date and how many you are.
How do I choose a trek?
Each page shows distance, hours, climb and difficulty. If in doubt, tell us what you have walked lately and what you expect, and we will recommend one.
Can children join?
On some treks, yes, if they are used to walking. We assess age, experience and the chosen trek.
How do I pay?
In dollars by card through WeTravel, or in pesos by bank transfer (ask us for the details on WhatsApp). Any bank or card fee is told before confirming.
Can I change the date?
If you ask before the trek and there is a guide and a place, yes. It is not guaranteed and there may be a price difference or third-party costs.
What if I cancel?
30 days or more ahead: full refund; 15 to 29 days: 50 %; under 15 days: no refund. The details are in our booking policy.
On the mountain
What if the weather is bad?
Rain, wind or cloud do not mean cancelling. The guide assesses and may change the time, route or goal. If we cannot go, we move you to another date or give you credit. We go out almost always: only heavy winter snowfall stops us.
Is reaching the lake or summit guaranteed?
No. It depends on the weather, the ground and the group. The guide makes the safety decisions.
Who are the guides?
Professional, bilingual mountain guides (Spanish and English), chosen for each trek. Our network includes guides with UIMLA certification. All carry a VHF radio.
What clothing and footwear?
Hiking boots with good grip, a waterproof jacket and warm layers are essential. After booking we send you the full list.
Is technical gear, transport or food included?
It depends on the trek: each page says what is included. The day-trek lunch is optional and made by El Puma’s restaurant; on crossings all meals are included.
Where do we meet?
The point and time come with the confirmation. Depending on the trek, in town, at your lodging or another agreed place.
Is there signal on the trails?
Hardly any. Don’t rely on your phone: the guide carries a VHF radio.
Do I need travel insurance?
We strongly recommend it: covering trekking, cancellation, medical care and evacuation. Check that it covers the activity you booked.
What if I feel unwell on the trail?
Tell the guide right away. They will assess and may change the pace or route to look after you and the group.
The Park and El Chaltén
How much is the park fee?
Since 1/6/2026 the day pass is ARS 50,000 for foreign visitors, ARS 25,000 for Argentines and ARS 8,000 for Santa Cruz residents; a second day within 72 h is half price. No cash at the booths. Laguna de los Tres and Laguna Torre both charge.
When is the best season?
The season runs October to April, with long days and snow-free trails. In winter (May to September) you walk with crampons and poles, which are required.
Are there ATMs in El Chaltén?
Just one, at Banco Santa Cruz, with a low withdrawal limit. Bring cash from Buenos Aires or El Calafate.
How do I get to El Chaltén?
The nearest airport is El Calafate, 213 km away. Buses run daily (Caltur, Chaltén Travel, Taqsa), about 3 hours.
